Fast-casual Indian restaurant Sankranti opens in the State Farm Building at Duwnoody Perimeter Center

The Sankranti Indian Restaurant is now open for take-out and delivery at the State Farm building in Dunwoody, with restaurant catering service expected to begin in the coming weeks. Owner Srinivasa Nimmagadda described the restaurant as “India’s version of Chipotle”.

Nimmagadda, which also owns a banquet hall and restaurant of the same name in Johns Creek, says he hopes sankranti fills an “Indian food offerings void” in the fast-food market here, comparing its menu and approach to service to chains like Chipotle.

The menu offers dishes from the northern and southern regions of India assembled when ordered at the counter, including kathi rolls, pulao, samosas and kebabs. Sankranti’s curry bowls come with a choice of protein, such as chicken tikka, chicken malai, lamb and paneer tikka masala. The restaurant also has a few dessert options on the menu, such as gulab jamun and rasmalai.

In a bid to make Indian cuisine more “mainstream,” Nimmagadda plans to open multiple locations in Atlanta over the next year and eventually franchise the restaurant so it becomes a “household name” in America.

Sankranti is the latest restaurant to open in the Perimeter Center redevelopment area.

Last August, Tum Pok Pok owners Jakkrit Tuanphakdee and Adidsara Weerasin opened Thai-Chinese restaurant Yao on Perimeter Center Parkway. A second Iron Hill Brewery location also opened last summer on Hammond Drive near the Perimeter Mall.

Later this year, chef Pasquale “Pat” Pascarella (The White Bull) will open a second location of his Neapolitan Piedmont Heights pizzeria and Italian restaurant Grana next to Taco Mac at Perimeter Center. A small food court will soon open in the Ashford Lane development at Perimeter Center, along with locations of Sweetgreen, Brown Bag Seafood Companyand Superica some time this summer.

Then, in 2023, a second Atlanta location of indoor golf mini-bar and restaurant Puttshack opens as part of the upcoming High Street development at the intersection of Perimeter Center Parkway and Hammond Drive.
