Indian restaurant Banjara returns to Ashburn

A new restaurant has quietly opened in the Ashburn Village Mall and the name may sound familiar to longtime residents of the area.

It’s called Banjara and it is the same location that a previous incarnation of Banjara once called home.

Banjara Flavors of India took over the space that was most recently Persis Biryani, which was previously the Indian Tavern, and before that was Banjara Indian Cuisine. (It was also once the Indian restaurant Royal Taj, but at this point we have lost all trace of it.)

We’re told that Banjara has a whole new management team running the establishment, but the menu still focuses on North Indian cuisine, where the Banjara nomads are from.

The sign still says Persis, but that will change in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the new Banjara menu includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian starters, as well as appetizers, biryanis and tandoori. They also have a great selection of different Indian breads including various naans, kulchas, rotis and more.

Banjara also offers a selection of small bites called chaat, based on traditional Indian street food. The restaurant organizes “Chit Chaat” hours with reduced prices on the chaat from 5pm to 7pm on weekdays (M, T, Th, F). You can see Banjara’s full menu below.
