A restaurant closed for a year has been taken over by a popular Indian restaurant in Birmingham with ambitious plans to transform it into a modern gastropub.

Work began this week on a major renovation of the old Beeches site at Hampton in Arden, near Solihull, ready for the opening of the new Soho Tavern.

The owners already run a well-known restaurant of the same name on Park Road, which has become famous for its grills and spicy chili crisps.

The Marsh Lane gourmet pub launch is part of a three-site expansion plan that will bring Soho Tavern’s portfolio to six, after another new opening in Walsall later this year.

The CGI images offer a glimpse of what the restaurant area will look like inside – with fresh, modern decor, comfy seating, greenery hanging from overhead lights, and sweeping views of the bowling green and countryside. Hampton-in-Arden.

There will also be a separate drinks area with a striking green bar and a TV for playing sports.

An urban planning file for the second phase of the renovation, which would see the building enlarged, must be submitted in the coming months.

Jas Sahota, 32, will run the new site alongside group director Mikey Singh.

He told BirminghamLive: “It will be traditional Indian style food with an English touch, but the place itself will not be your traditional Indian restaurant.

“It’s more of an Indian gastronomic pub, with a relaxed and laid back atmosphere.

“We will be showing Sky Sports and we will have 12 beers on tap.

“It’s been in need of a renovation for some time and at Hampton in Arden you expect the pubs to be top notch so I think people would like to see something made of it.

“Our unique selling point is the beer garden.

“There is a great outdoor space at Beeches between the pub and the bowling green and we hired a landscaper to make the most of the space while still maintaining those views.

“I really think this has the potential to be the prettiest in the Birmingham area.”

Bosses hope the new Soho Tavern will be up and running by April / May of this year.

They are now welcoming applications for 20 new jobs, including director, assistant director, cocktail mixologists and waiters.
