A concept of Indian cuisine and nightlife is coming to The Woodlands, in the form of a luxurious restaurant called Amrina, which translates to “princess”. It is the first restaurant of Kahani Social Group, and will be located at 3 Waterway Square Place, which is owned by The Howard Hughes Company. The restaurant should open in time for spring.

The head of Amrina and one of the managing partners is Jaspratap “Jassi” Bindra, who recently led the kitchen of Punjabi grills in Washington DC In 2019, Punjab Grill received Michelin Plate recognition. (Michelin recently stopped using the “Assiette” accolade, but at the time it offered high-level recognition simply for good food.) According to a biography by Kahani Social Group, Bindra’s specialty is “dishes classic Indians with eclectic expressions, and the creation of a gastronomic journey inspired by his childhood.

“From the moment I started chatting with the Kahani Social Group team, I knew we were going to create something amazing together,” Bindra said. “I am thrilled to join a team that is not only open to creating a revolutionary culinary adventure, but who is as passionate about this mission as I am.”

Kahani Social Group was co-founded by brothers surprise and Preet Paul Singh. “With my brother and my experience in the restaurant industry, we know what customers are looking for,” Surpreet said. “And with [Bindra’s] culinary expertise, we know our team will spare no effort when it comes to creating the best ambiance, the best menu and the overall social experience.

The Amrina menu will offer modern takes on classic Indian regional and traditional dishes, using sustainably sourced ingredients, seafood and premium cuts of meat. Amrina’s tapas bar is inspired by Indian street food, but will feature influences from around the world. The restaurant’s private dining room and Chef’s Table menus feature dishes created with the “royal cuisine of india” in mind.

Amrina’s foodie space will transform into a “high-energy” nightclub with DJs and other live entertainment on weekends. Renderings of the future restaurant show a design adorned with jewel tones and gold embellishments.

The restaurant is divided into sections which make the meal more intimate. Guests can choose between private and semi-private dining in the various areas of the restaurant, or a chef’s table meal served in the kitchen with Bindra guiding diners through each course. Features of the space include a 30-foot indoor/outdoor bar serving both the dining room and the patio, a lounge bar, and a princess garden.

Located within walking distance of the Cynthia Mitchell Woods Pavilion, Waterway Square is a dining, entertainment and lodging hub of The Woodlands. It’s common for couples and groups to dine and then stroll along the waterway in the evening. It is therefore possible that an upscale restaurant that turns into an upscale club at night will be well received by residents and travelers alike. We’ll have to wait until later this year to find out.
