Unique New Nepali-Indian Restaurant and Bar Opens Inside Columbus Area Grocery – 614NOW

The Nepali community in Columbus comes together to provide authentic new food options.

Jhalpi kitchen and bar held its official inauguration in early May. Located at 859 Windmiller Dr. northeast of downtown Pickerington, the restaurant is located inside GN International Grocery, the country’s largest Nepalese grocery store, which launched last fall.

And according to GN International owner Govin Ghimiray, the new restaurant is an example of the Nepalese community in the Columbus area putting down roots and seeking their own.

“When we were looking for tenants, I gave the opportunity to [Jhalpi Kitchen & Bar] instead of a more established company,” Ghimiray said.

The new restaurant, which also includes a full bar, has always been part of GN International’s plan, Chimiray added. And while the location may remind some of Momo Ghar’s first home inside Saraga International Grocery, Jhalpi is a much larger and more dine-in-ready space, at nearly 3,000 square feet.

What the two restaurants have in common, however, is a tantalizing array of Nepalese offerings. Momo is on Jhalpi’s menu, and the new restaurant offers a mix of Indian specialties like curries, vindaloo and tandoori as well as Nepali combo dishes served with a variety of proteins.
